Running Disk Cleanup
Windows will store some files on the machine for temporary reasons. Disk Cleanup will remove these files and regain some lost hard drive space.

Windows 98/ME:
  • Click 'Start', 'Programs', 'Accessories', 'System Tools', 'Disk Cleanup'

  • Select your hard drive from the dropdown list (should already be selected)

  • Select all files in the 'Files to Delete' box, and then click 'OK'

  • Click 'Yes' when it asks if you are sure

  • Disk Cleanup will remove the selected files


  • Windows XP:
  • Click 'Start', 'All Programs', 'Accessories', 'System Tools', 'Disk Cleanup'

  • It will then calculate the amount of space it will free

  • Select all the files in 'Files to Delete', and then click 'OK'

  • Click 'Yes' when it asks if you are sure

  • Disk Cleanup will remove the selected files
